Sri Maju Steamboat @ Kota Kinabalu

The sun has set and the cool breeze has started to come by. Thank God for giving us rain as the heat was unbearable. Things did cool down but the only thing that did not was our appetite for good food. We were still in Kota Kinabalu and it would be a sin not to dine at this special place which serves Steamboat.

Steamboat it may be and may sound just 'so-so'. But this is not any ordinary steamboat where you find at every corner. Yeah they do serve normal steamboat with prawns, fish balls, blah blah blah too. The center of attraction here is their world famous 'Loong Dan Steamboat'.

'Loong Dan' is a type of fish which belongs to the garoupa family. The given name is to differentiate normal size with the giant size garoupa. Loong Dan means giant sized garoupa. LOL....  Each fish can weight more than 70Kg and can be as heavy as 150Kg. This species are very rare and have lived many years in the deepest parts of the South China Sea ocean.

The superiority of this species is the sweetness of it's meat, tender and doesn't have the 'fishy' taste at all. This is why the Loong Dan steamboat here is a-must place to dine. Not to be missed!

The soup is based on clear chicken stock with lot's of chinese herbs in it. The soup is simply delicious since the 'Loong Dan' fish is cooked in it and it is hard to resist the temptation of not slurping the all natural soup. Yeah, it is natural since I do not feel 'thirsty' after consuming the soup, which means it is MSG FREE.

The owner of this restaurant, Mr Philip Goh is from Seremban but ply his trade in KK where seafood supplies are the freshest. This is very important when it comes to dishing out seafood according to Philip.

One funny thing about his clients is that majority are not locals. He has got clients coming from Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and West Malaysia. Most of them are hardcore supporters and will pop in for a meal or two whenever they are in KK.

Last but not least don't forget to order their super yummy 'Yam Rice'. Just amazing. Goes very well with the steamboat. Try not to over indulged too much as it can pop your belly burst easily. Yeah it's that good!!!

I've dine here a couple of times now and I seriously do believe that Philip will see more of me in the future. Highly recommended!

Cheers.

Kedai Restoran Kuo Man @ Jalan Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton, is the capital of Sabah, East Malaysia which is situated on the island of Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is the gateway to Sabah where you will find the international airport, world class hotels, innumerable restaurants and cafes, shopping malls and business districts.

KK as it's famously known among the locals is a famous tourist destination. Besides exploring the tallest mountain in Malaysia, Mount Kinabalu many are here to explore the rich and diversified treasure of nature on the island.

Kota Kinabalu is a cultural melting pot. Here Chinese meet Malays and Bruneis, Javanese, Filipinos and even Europeans, all of whom have brought along their own cuisine. Try out the many specialties offered at various kedai kopi and shun fast food. And one of the famous kedai kopi in KK, the very first kedai to serve fish paste noodle is known as Kuo Man Restaurant.

Everything that is served here is all 'homemade' from the famous fish paste - slices or balls to the 'Hakka' noodles. So, you can expect to sink your teeth to freshly made noodle and fish slices or balls. I was told that this makan place is into it's third generation. And still going strong.

Crowd was consistently crowded. Never a minute where you find this place empty or half empty. Yeah this place is really famous among the locals and also those from West Malaysia. This is 'a must' place to go for if you ever set foot into KK.

The fish slices are really delicious and the best thing about it is that it does not carry the fishy smell or taste and the way they made it ........ every slice or ball taste really really really smooth and have the springy feel when you bite into them. Simply amazing!

Another famous dish is their very own recipe ..... beef meat in the form of ball or slice. OMG was the first words that came out from my mouth when I bit into it. Words just cannot describe how delicious the beef meat is. Truly fabulous! And the soup that came with it is just lovely.

And the grand finale is the homemade hakka noodle. You can have a choice of 'kon lou' or 'soup based'. And they are famously known for their 'kon lou' noodle. It's taste is simply amazing. I had 2 helping this time as I just couldn't resist the temptation.

Conclusion - highly recommended. A must! But the only thing which is not favorable is when I call for the bill. Just too expensive.

Cheers.

Upperstar Steak & Chicken Restaurant @ Lintas Plaza, Kota Kinabalu.

Well decorated walls and ceiling

This place is really amazing. I was in loved with the set-up of
this restaurant the minute I stepped in. I was totally
mesmerized with it's decor and couldn't stop myself from
admiring it. The colourful domes and paintings ....
just unbelievable coming from a restaurant.

My client frequent this place pretty often especially for
lunch. Besides the colourful setting of this place their menu
looks colourful too. Lot's of varieties from Asian to Western
cuisine.

It was close to 1pm when we made our way there. Finding a
parking space stressful experience but we were really lucky
to get one.

Lady luck was with us again since we managed to find a
seating for the 4 of us. Yeah, it was crowded with lunch
seeking client.
Thai Fried Chicken Rice
I left it to my client to place the order for the 4 of us since
he's familiar with what's good and what's not.
The Thai Fried Chicken Rice is really yummy. It is both
spicy and sour which makes this dish really appetizing.
The fried chicken tasted really good especially when
you eat it with the spicy/sour sauce.
Truly 5 star.
Curry Chicken Rice
My client specifically ordered the Curry Chicken Rice for
me as this is one of their signature dish.
It's curry was cooked in Indian style with lot's of
spices and curry powder in it together with star anise and
coconut milk.
The curry chicken tasted really good even though it is not
spicy. The chicken meat was slightly touch which is a
sign of overcooked.

Hainanese Chicken Rice
Then came the Hainanese Chicken Rice which was very
well presented. The rice was very aromatic, chicken was
tender and smooth,  a bowl of clear chicken soup.
For dips - pounded chili, minced ginger and sweet soy
sauce.
KAWABANGGA!!!!
Really delicious!!!

Bill was pocket friendly too. All the above plus 5 glasses of
ice lemon tea plus tax ... Ka Ching.....RM39.00

And yeah did I mention??? The table which we were seated came
with a computer system c/w FOC internet
compliments from the restaurant.
Can you believe this??!!

It is only available for selected numbers of tables. You can
dine and surf your favourite site at the same time or
watch a movie or keep your kids accompany while
enjoying your food.
COOL isn't it!!!!

Cheers....
