Fatt Kee Yong Tau Foo @ Emporium Makan, Klang

A close friend of ours have been asking us to dine in Klang for a long time. He was telling us about his friend's outlet which serves good 'lou shue fun' in Klang. According to J, this outlet is in it's second generation and is very popular amongst the locals. For sure I wouldn't have known anything about this outlet until today.

It is located in the city's oldest medan selera in Klang town. To my surprised this outlet is called 'Fatt Kee Yong Tau Foo'. I thought we were there for a good bowl of 'lou shue fun'. O.o

Asked J about it and he says 'yeah' they are famous for their 'yong tau foo' too and their 'lou shue fun' actually comes with some 'yong tau foo' which is really something special. Without wasting more time we ordered what we came for and I really hope what J mentioned about the food is true.

When the bowl of 'lou shue fun' was brought to us I was rather taken aback as I did not expect it to be so 'plain'. It was pretty oily which is not to my liking and topped with some minced meat. Came with it is a bowl of yong tau foo in a bowl of soup.

Frankly, I didn't fancy the noodle at all. The bowl of noodle was just too salty, too oily, which take a lot of effort to finish it. But the yong tau foo tasted pretty good. Maybe because I am not accustomed to it's taste but Klang folks certainly does know how to enjoy this bowl of noodle.

The crowd was pretty healthy with mostly families coming in bus load flocking this outlet for it's 'lou shee fun'. Certainly this outlet is doing something right to have triggered Klang folks tastebuds. But sadly not mine, though.

There's this outlet beside it named 'Teo Seng Ngoh Heong' that serves 'lobak'. We ordered some mixtures of different types of lobak to go along with the noodles we ordered earlier.

Majority of the lobak were 'fried' stuff which we tried not to have too much of it. Nothing to shout about though just tasted normal-lah.

Conclusion : Famous with Klang folks but not with me and my mates. I will not come back even for half a bowl. I would prefer to drive myself all the way down town Kuala Lumpur for a good bowl of noodles instead of Klang. Lobak is ok-lah. A 1/5.

Cheers.

Restaurant Da Tuan Yuan @ Klang.

Sunday will always be Sunday. Waking up later than usual time, relaxing and lazing around seemed to be the best thing to do. Almost the best ........ for me I have to be up early to feed my 3 precious dogs who will give me peace of mind guarding my fort.

As I was thinking of heading towards my lovely bed after feeding my doggies, my mother in law called up and wanted us to accompany her for 'makan' with her friends over at Klang. Oh! Well! we don't do this that often so I reckon it was a great opportunity to have an outing with my in-laws.

We were introduced to this lovely makan place in Klang by a friend of my in-law. It was a semi-far journey but we were told that this place serves really good food. So it's worth making this trip. It was only 11:50am when we reached Klang and to my surprised the restaurant was already packed with people. Another thing that surprised me was that they were actually lunch crowd considering the type of food sold here.

This is going to be a feast for us as my in-law's friend have ordered  all of the restaurant's famous dishes. Starting with their famous 'Char Siew'. True enough the meat is tender and still juicy and not tough. Taste really good but could be better if they had more honey in it. Wonderfully delicious.

Next is the 'Long Beans fried with Brinjals'. Smells good, looks good and taste good too. Just a tad too oily but I reckon this is a norm for them to really stir fry this into perfection.

To spice up our appetite we specially ordered this super dish 'Fried Ikan Bilis with Chilli and Shallots' in a very special sour/spicy sauce. Really cool ...... and special.

'Spinach with special broth' was everyone's favourite. It could have been a perfect dish if not because of the starchy broth.

This is one dish I will never order as I am not a big fan of 'Prawn Mantis'. Fried to golden colour and was rather surprised with it's taste. Crunchy but some were over-fried making it's meat hard to chew.

'Kum Heong Fish' was next. Garnished with spring onions this fishy does taste good but a little salty.

Here comes what we have been waiting for. This restaurant is also famous for it's fish head dishes. We ordered one whole Garoupa which was cut into half. One half (tail) used to steamed with assam sauce. The fish was perfectly steamed and the meat tasted really sweet and tender and juicy. Fantastic!! I can see everyone rushing in for a piece of the this dish especially it's sauce. Came with some vegetable in particular ladies fingers, this is a must!!! Two Thumbs Up!!

The other half, the fish head, was used to steamed with clear soya sauce. Our jaws just dropped from the very first taste. Words just cannot describe how delicious this dish was. Just fabulous and mouth watering. The 'soya sauce' was mixed with magical hands as it was not too sweet nor too salty. Perfect!!! Fish was done just right !! A plus for it. Pure delight to sink our teeth into both the steamed fish. Highly recommended.

Conclusion : I couldn't stop myself from praising this restaurant. They simply do come up with magical dishes that tasted 5 stars especially the steamed fish and 'char siew'. Other dish was equally good but the former stands out most. Portion was remarkably huge for 13 hungry adults. Pretty reasonable and pocket friendly ~ paid RM286.00 for all the above. Was carrying a huge grin and was already thinking of making another trip here even before we left. A 4/5.

Cheers!

Hou Moon Restaurant @ Klang.

Monday Blues has kicked in. Never had any good experienced with this particular day unless it is a holiday or when I am on a vacation. This is probably one of the toughest day of the week. A day which the 'Boomtownrats' would like to shooooooooooooot.

This day brought us to Klang, a place famous for 'Bak Kut Teh' and many other foodie. Recently I have been to a few eateries here for some really good dishes eg steam fish. Never did I know that besides 'Bak Kut Teh', Klang is also famous for it's 'Steam Fish'. There are just so many restaurants in Klang that dishes out fine quality steam fish.

I will touch on one which is located at Jalan Hip Hing by the name 'Hou Moon Restaurant'. The main facade of this place doesn't look very promising. If not for my buddy who brought us here I would never have taken a second look.

First to arrived was the 'Steam Tofu' sprinkled with fried garlic and spring onion. A very fine dish indeed. Simple and lovely. The white tofu was so silky smooth and soft which is a plus sign.

One of the two vegetables we ordered was served immediately. It consists of long beans and brinjals fried with garlic and 'har mai'. Pretty good indeed but just a tad too oily.

'Spinach served with a special broth' was really good. It was snapped up pretty fast ... even the broth was not spared. Really good and not too oily nor salty. Perfectly done.

For the grand finale came their signature dish ~ 'Steam Garoupa' in soya sauce topped with fried garlic to add the extra zing into it. Pure delight to sink our teeth into the fish meat. Was perfectly done and the fish was not overcooked. Just fantastic and the sauce was so appealing too. Just couldn't control our rice intake as the sauce makes it so so yummy.

Conclusion : Very satisfying indeed. In terms of quality food and fullness it made to our belly. Unbelievable yummy. Will definately come back for more. Pretty value for money too. All the above ...... just below RM80.00. A 3/5.

Cheers.
