For most Malaysian especially the Chinese 'Bak Kut Teh' has been one of their favourite meal for decades. This dish is made famous especially in Klang where most Chinese are Hokkien-lang. Bak Kut Teh is not only famous in Malaysia but also in countries like Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
In plain English 'Bak Kut Teh' simply means 'meat bone tea' consists of pork meat or ribs or even 'spare parts' simmered in a complex lovely soup or broth of herbs and spices. Bak Kut Teh is usually eaten with rice and 'yow char kuai'. Not to forget a dipping sauce for the meat ~ soy sauce with chilli padi and chopped garlic.
We decided to head towards Chow Yang in SS2, PJ as we were told that there's a restaurant manned by folks from Pulau Ketam serves really good Bak Kut Teh. The place is called 'Cheow Sang Restaurant'.
We were surprised that this place was packed with patrons when we reached there. The 'BKT' aroma can be smelled from miles away and true enough it smelt really good. We managed to be seated and made our order immediately.
Shocked I was when I drank the soup. It was fabulous! Really delicious! Better than most BKT restaurant in PJ and Klang. The pork meat and ribs are just fantastic. It just melt in the mouth ..... LOL. We just couldn't resist the soup and have to 'tambah' soup 2-3 rounds.
The other dish we ordered is supposedly the restaurant's famous signature dish ~ 'steamed fish head' in special sauce or in Cantonese 'mun yee tao'. LOL...... This dish is super good as the sauce is so mouth watering. It's a little sour but it's ok if you consume it with white rice. This is a lovely dish for those who loves eating fish head.
Conclusion : 2 Thumbs Up for Bak Kut Teh! As for the fish...... it could be better but still score top marks from us all. Worth another visit as there are so many different choices to order from.
